PORTLAND, OR – Oct. 7, 2015 – ReelDx Education has launched a new library of neurology-focused real-patient video case studies. Dr. Jonathan Howard, Assistant Professor of Neurology and Psychiatry at a New York City-based academic medical center/research university, is creating videos of patients who present with neurological complaints and diagnoses. As with every ReelDx Education video case, Dr. Howard obtains explicit patient consent for their participation, and follows ReelDx’s HIPAA-compliant processes.
“We’re thrilled to have Dr. Howard on board as a contributing videographer,” says Dr. David Spiro, ReelDx Co-Founder and Chief Medical Officer. “He not only brings exceptional clinical expertise, but is himself a pioneer in the field of real patient video, having published the first fully electronic neurology teaching tool, the ‘Neurology Video Textbook.’ Our collaborative neurology library reflects our shared passion to enable medical learning by seeing rather than just by reading.”
The ReelDx Education Neurology Library features a growing collection of pediatric and adult video cases, and covers the spectrum of neurologic diagnoses: Stroke (CVA), brain tumor, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis (MS), memory disorders, headache, and more.
Two of Dr. Howard’s first cases, which ReelDx is offering for free during the month of October, include:
- 50-year-old with multiple sclerosis and 3d pain, visual loss in left eye
- 52-year-old with 10y poor balance and ataxia
In addition to the neurology library, ReelDx Education features real patient video libraries in General Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine, Emergency Medical Services, Developing World Medicine and Bedside Ultrasound. The company’s 500+ video case studies, covering 1,000+ topics, are created by contributors at New York University, Yale University, the University of Louisville, and Oregon Health & Science University, as well as clinics and ambulance agencies across the country and internationally.
ReelDx Education features flexible options for healthcare educators to use real patient videos to enhance both synchronous and flipped-classroom learning. Both individual and institutional subscriptions are available, offering unlimited access to a robust and growing collection of pre-packaged video cases studies that include substantial case data and peer-reviewed teaching points. These case studies are invaluable as assigned preparation for didactics and simulations, for facilitating class discussion, and for enriching distance-learning curriculum.
ReelDx Education videos also can be licensed as stand-alone learning objects for inclusion in LMS courseware, lecture presentations, and custom-built case studies.
